laser hair removal Pre-Treatment Advice

  • You should avoid sun exposure for between four to six weeks before, and between your treatments. Recently tanned skin cannot be treated. If you are treated within two weeks of active (natural or tanning booth) tanning, you may risk developing hypopigmentation (white spots) which can take two to three months to clear.
  • If using any topical medications or skin products that may affect treatment, you may be asked to stop use for between three to five days prior to the start of treatment.
  • Bleaching, plucking, threading, or waxing should be avoided for between four to six weeks prior to treatment. Hair should be removed by shaving only.
  • Self-tanning products must be stopped for two weeks prior to starting treatment. Any residual self-tan should be removed.
  • The treatment area should be clean, and free from make-up, lotion, deodorant, and any other products.
  • The area to be treated should  be shaved at least twelve to twenty-four hours prior to your appointment.
  • Chemical peels or laser resurfacing treatments should be avoided at least four weeks before treatment.

laser hair removal Post-treatment Advice

  • Immediately following treatment, you should expect to see redness (Erythema) and swelling (Edema) of each hair follicle within the treatment area. Erythema may last up to two to three days. The treated area may feel similar to sunburn for a short period. This is a very normal, common side effect. It is also advisable to wear loose clothing over treated area’s, to prevent any irritation.
  • A topical soothing gel such as Aloe Vera may be applied to the treated area if desired.
  • Make-up may be used following treatment if the skin is not irritated.
  • Sun exposure/Sunbeds should be avoided for a minimum of four weeks post treatment.
  • The treated area should always be protected by use of sunblock SPF 30 (minimum) and/or covered by clothing.
  • In between treatments, you will notice that hair continues to grow, and this may be patchy. This is normal, and any hair should be removed by means of shaving only. No waxing, plucking, or threading. It is important the hair is not removed from the root.
  • For between twenty-four to forty eights hours post-treatment, it is advised you avoid any heat treatments, such as steam rooms/saunas, hot baths/showers, and excessive exercise.  It is also advisable to avoid rough sports.
  • Exfoliation and peels should be avoided for at least one week.
  • Fake tanning products can be used forty-eight hours post treatment provided the treated area is free from reddening and  irritation.

  • Do not pick/scratch or rough handle the treated area.
